Life Update: A New Degree, a New Last Name, and a New State

Life has been unbelievably insane (and impossibly wonderful) since my last post. I want to share all the details, but for now, I'll simply hit the high points to bring you up to speed.

After years of hoping and dreaming of going back to college to finish the degree I started in 2006, I graduated from Ashford University on May 4. I now hold a B.A. in English. (And excuse the horn-tooting, but I managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout the program and graduated Summa Cum Laude!)

After years of waiting and praying, I married the perfect man for me on May 9. It was an absolutely amazing day, and I can't wait to share more about this soon (soooo many behind-the-scenes and DIYs to share!).

So, I am now Jennifer Oliver, and I have the documents to prove it.

Would you LOOK at the difference in those photos?!?!? Having a slimmer, more attractive driver's license photo instantly became my goal when that top license was issued in 2012. And there it is! From 230 to 175, from Bain to Oliver. I confess, I cried a little when I got it.

3. I quit my job and moved to Illinois with my husband.

My last day at work!
I said goodbye to the high school in which I've been working as school nurse for almost three years and blindly followed my new husband to Illinois, where he works currently as an ornithologist.

My last day at work was a bit emotional, as a few co-workers had surprises for me, but I am excited to move on and seek work that uses my new degree.

Balloons waiting outside my office

Matt's job provides communal housing (a good-sized house in the country that we share with the two other research technicians on his crew). Though we'd, of course, prefer to have our own place, the house is great, and it's completely paid for by his employer. No rent is a huge pro.

There are tons of super nice hiking trails out back, and I've gotten up early to run out there once so far. I really want to make that a regular thing.

We have a small room to ourselves (without a closet...). Since the job is only through August, we can't do too much to personalize it, but we are beginning to settle in and make things our own.

More to come soon!
